More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:
Skistore Swing
De Opslach 3
8448 GV Heerenveen
The Netherlands
4. Shipping
Hand over your return at a DPD parcel point or a carrier of your choice.
Returning (part of) your order is at your own risk. Keep the proof of delivery until we have received and processed your package.
Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.
5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

The Mountain Studio D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket is a men's hooded down jacket insulated with 700 fill power RDS-certified down and built around a 20D downproof nylon shell that packs into its own included stash bag. What sets this jacket apart is the combination of a slim, shell-compatible cut and a PFAS-free fabric with a PFC-free Bionic water-repellent finish: warmth you can carry, not weatherproofing you can rely on.
Who is the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket for?
This jacket suits hikers, alpine travellers and skiers who want a compressible down layer in the pack for cold stops, early starts and windy ridgelines, and who will wear it under a shell when the weather turns. It is not an outer ski jacket: no waterproof membrane, powder skirt, pit zips or RECCO is documented, and the storm hood is not helmet-compatible. In sustained rain or wet snow you need a waterproof shell over it.
How warm is the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket?
Warmth comes from 700 fill power RDS-certified down held in a diamond quilt construction, which keeps the down distributed across the chest, back, sleeves and hood. The Mountain Studio publishes no down fill weight and no garment weight, so exact warmth and packed size cannot be verified from specification. In practice, treat it as a standalone layer for dry cold and as an insulating midlayer under a shell when conditions turn harsh.
Which size should you choose in the D-7 UL?
The D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket has a slim cut and runs small. In your usual size you get a close fit intended for wear under a shell, over a base layer or a thin fleece. If you want a thicker midlayer underneath, or prefer a regular to relaxed silhouette, take one size up. Available in XS to 2XL; check the size chart before ordering.
How is the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket built?
The Mountain Studio builds the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket from a 20D downproof performance nylon shell filled with 700 fill power RDS-certified down. The diamond quilt keeps the down in place, while the downproof weave limits feathers working through the fabric. A PFC-free Bionic durable water-repellent finish makes the surface shed light moisture and dry snow; the shell itself is 100% PFAS-free. There is no membrane and no waterproof rating, and no breathability figure (RET or MVTR) is published. YKK zippers and reinforced stitching at the main stress points handle the load of a pack and repeated packing into the included stash bag.
Can you ski in the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket?
Yes, as a midlayer. The slim profile of the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket is designed to sit under a shell jacket for skiing and snowboarding, adding down warmth on lift rides, early starts and cold transitions. Worn on its own it belongs to dry, cold days: hiking, alpine travel, travel and backpacking, biking and city wear. Where it stops is wet weather and hard use. Down loses loft once damp, so sustained high-output activity in wet conditions is the wrong job for it, and the 20D fabric is light enough to be vulnerable to abrasion against rock and hardware. The storm hood with its soft chin guard seals around the head, but it is not sized to go over a helmet.
What is the D-7 UL made of and how do you wash it?
The shell is 100% nylon in a 20D downproof performance weave, PFAS-free, and the insulation is 700 fill power RDS-certified down. Down needs different care from a synthetic jacket: wash it separately with all fasteners closed, using a mild or down-specific detergent, and skip bleach and fabric softener, which both strip the loft and the water-repellent finish. Tumble dry on low heat with a few clean tennis balls to break up clumps and bring the down back to full volume. Do not dry clean. Source care wording differs between colourway pages (machine wash at 40°C, or a gentle cycle in cold water), so follow the label in the garment.
How sustainable is the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket?
The down in the D-7 UL Ultralight Down Hood Jacket is RDS-certified and responsibly sourced, and the water-repellent coating is PFC-free and PFAS-free. The Mountain Studio states that the materials and construction are chosen to support long-term use and repairability, though no repair programme details are published.
