More informationWhat Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.
Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.
Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.
Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.
Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?
-
Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.
-
Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.
-
Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.
Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.
GOOD TO KNOW
- You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
- Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
- After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
- Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
- Returns are at your own risk and expense.
- If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:
1. Check your items
√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired
√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?
√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?
2. Submit your return online
Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).
You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.
3. Pack your return
√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.
Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged
√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel
√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel
√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.
If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:
Skistore Swing
De Opslach 3
8448 GV Heerenveen
The Netherlands
4. Shipping
Hand over your return at a DPD parcel point or a carrier of your choice.
Returning (part of) your order is at your own risk. Keep the proof of delivery until we have received and processed your package.
Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.
5. Refund
You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.
This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.
Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
- ALP-3 20,000 mm with fully taped seams
- 60 g PrimaLoft Gold Eco: warmth without bulk
- 600D Cordura scuff guards at the lower leg
- 60 g is light: not for standing in severe cold
- Vent zippers only, no full-length side zips
- No body-measurement size chart for this style
The Mountain Studio Carv Cord Insulated Pant is a men's insulated ski trouser for full days of lift-served piste and resort skiing. It is built on an ALP-3 membrane construction rated 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h, with fully taped seams and 60 g PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation. What sets it apart is the corduroy face fabric, laminated over the membrane instead of the usual smooth ski shell.
Who is the Carv Cord Insulated Pant for?
This trouser suits the resort skier who wants light insulation, a fully taped 20,000 mm construction and a regular cut for full days on the piste, for the village afterwards and for occasional off-piste on resort terrain. The Mountain Studio Carv Cord Insulated Pant is not the right choice for high-output ski touring and skinning: the 60 g insulation is fixed and venting is limited to ventilation zippers, with no full-length side zips. It is also not built for standing still in severe cold, or for technical alpine climbing, as no harness-compatible features, gaiters or reinforced instep are specified.
How warm and how waterproof is the Carv Cord Insulated Pant?
The ALP-3 construction of the Carv Cord Insulated Pant carries a 20,000 mm water column and 20,000 g/m²/24h moisture transport, and every seam is taped, so wet chairlifts and sleet are covered. A PFAS-free DWR treatment sheds surface water first. The 60 g PrimaLoft Gold Eco fill is light insulation, enough to take the edge off cold days without bulk while you keep moving, with an added DuPont Sorona insulation barrier at the back of the waistband.
Which size should you choose?
Regular ski fit in men's sizing, available in S to XL, and it runs true to size, so order the size you normally wear. There is room to layer over a base layer. If you prefer a roomier fit or wear thick base layers, take one size up. No body-measurement size chart is available for this style.
How is the Carv Cord Insulated Pant constructed?
The Mountain Studio Carv Cord Insulated Pant stacks its functions into one panel. The corduroy face fabric is laminated over the ALP-3 membrane, so the ribbed outer and the waterproof barrier move as one piece rather than as a shell with a loose liner. Behind it sits 60 g PrimaLoft Gold Eco, a fine synthetic fill that adds warmth without the volume of a thick padded trouser, plus a separate ergonomic insulation insert with a DuPont Sorona barrier at the back of the waistband. Every seam is taped, which closes the needle holes the stitching leaves in the membrane. At the lower leg, laminated 600D Cordura scuff guards take the abrasion from ski edges and boot buckles.
Is the Carv Cord Insulated Pant suitable for a full resort day?
Piste and resort skiing is exactly what the Carv Cord Insulated Pant is designed around. The 3D ergonomic waist adjustment system sets the waist for the day, ventilation zippers let heat out when the sun comes round, and the 20,000 mm rating with taped seams handles the wet snow of a warm afternoon or a full day in rain-sleet. The same trouser also works for lift-served skiing in cold, wet weather, for occasional off-piste on resort terrain and for the walk through the village afterwards. Where it stops is uphill work and extended alpine use: the insulation cannot be removed, the venting is restricted to zippers whose length and position the brand does not specify, and 20,000 mm, while strong for resort days, sits below three-layer hardshell level for sustained heavy weather or multi-day alpine trips.
What is the Carv Cord Insulated Pant made of and how do you wash it?
The materials list of the Carv Cord Insulated Pant is short and specific: a corduroy outer fabric (the brand does not publish fibre percentages), the ALP-3 membrane, 60 g PrimaLoft Gold Eco insulation, a DuPont Sorona insulation barrier at the waistband and laminated 600D Cordura at the lower leg. Corduroy is a textured outer for ski use, and beyond the Cordura reinforcement no abrasion or pilling data is published, so treat the fabric as you would any napped surface. Wash the trouser inside out and separately at 40 °C with a mild detergent, close all fasteners first, skip bleach and fabric softener, avoid dry cleaning, and tumble dry on low.
What makes the Carv Cord Insulated Pant a more sustainable choice?
Three points are documented for this trouser. The DWR treatment is PFAS-free. The insulation is the Eco variant of PrimaLoft Gold, although no recycled-content figure is published for it. And a repair kit is included with the trouser, so a tear from an edge or a buckle can be fixed rather than ending the garment's life.
