What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Skistore Swing

De Opslach 3

8448 GV Heerenveen

The Netherlands

4. Shipping

Hand over your return at a DPD parcel point or a carrier of your choice.

Returning (part of) your order is at your own risk. Keep the proof of delivery until we have received and processed your package.

Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.

5. Refund

You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

  • Packs down small: wear alone or under a shell
  • No hood, only a stand-up collar

  • Not waterproof: not for rain or wet snow

The Peak Performance Helium Hybrid Down Jacket is a lightweight men's down jacket that combines quilted 700 fill power down panels with stretch fleece panels. It is built for active use in dry cold: worn on its own as a light outer layer, or as an insulating layer under a shell jacket. The hybrid layout is the point here, with down where you need warmth and stretch where you need movement.

Who is this jacket for?

Pick the Helium Hybrid Down Jacket if you want packable down insulation that still moves with you on the climb, the approach or the walk to the lift, and that compresses into a pack as a spare warm layer. It is not a ski shell: with water-resistant panels and a PFC-free DWR finish only, it is the wrong choice for sustained rain, wet snow or a full lift-served day in falling snow. It also has no hood, only a stand-up collar with a chinguard, and the open hand pockets are not a place for a phone or a lift pass.

How warm is the Helium Hybrid Down Jacket?

The fill is duck down at 700 fill power with a 90/10 down-to-feather ratio, certified to the Responsible Down Standard and traceable through the Track My Down program. The shell is an ultralight nylon ripstop that blocks wind and sheds light moisture. The stretch panels are a brushed midweight polyester fleece, so they breathe and flex but do not block wind the way the down panels do. That combination makes this a jacket for moving in near-freezing, dry conditions rather than for standing still in deep cold.

Which size should you choose?

The Helium Hybrid Down Jacket runs from S to 2XL. Use the size chart on this page to match your chest measurement before ordering. The stretch panels and the elastic cuffs and hem binding allow a thin midlayer underneath; if you plan to wear the jacket over a fleece or under a shell, measure over that layer.

How is the Peak Performance Helium Hybrid Down Jacket constructed?

The Peak Performance Helium Hybrid Down Jacket is built from two fabrics working together. The front, back and sleeve tops use an ultralight nylon ripstop in recycled polyamide, quilted in the Helium pattern and filled with 700 fill power duck down, 90/10 down to feather. The remaining zones use a soft, midweight polyester fleece with a brushed back, which stretches instead of loft. The ripstop is treated with a PFC-free Durable Water Repellent finish, so light snow and short drizzle bead rather than soak in. The front closes with a reversed YKK coil zipper behind a chinguard, under a stand-up collar.

Is the Helium Hybrid Down Jacket suitable for ski touring and climbing?

Yes, as the warm layer rather than the outer shell. On a ski tour the Peak Performance Helium Hybrid Down Jacket compresses into the pack and comes out at the transition, when you stop sweating and start cooling. On a climb it works as belay insulation for stop-and-go days. In town it reads as a clean quilted jacket rather than technical kit. Where it stops is clear: there is no membrane and no taped seams, so a day of wet snow will wet out the ripstop and flatten the down, and the fleece side panels will let a cold wind through. For a lift-served day in bad weather, wear it under a waterproof shell instead of in place of one. The absence of a hood also means you need a helmet, a hat or a hooded shell on top in exposed terrain.

What is it made of and how does that affect durability?

The shell panels are an ultralight nylon ripstop in recycled polyamide. Ripstop keeps a snag from running, which matters on a fabric this thin, but it remains a light face fabric: pack it next to crampons or ski edges at your own risk. The stretch panels are brushed polyester fleece and take abrasion from a pack's shoulder straps better than the ripstop does. The fill is down, which means it loses loft and insulating power when it gets wet, so the single most important habit with this jacket is keeping it dry and letting it loft again fully before you pack it away.

What are the responsibility credentials?

The down in the Helium Hybrid Down Jacket is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and fully traceable through the Track My Down program. The water-repellent finish is PFC-free, and the shell ripstop is made from recycled polyamide, with recycled fibers used elsewhere in the garment.

Down (700 fill)
Down (700 fill)
Down with a 700 fill power delivers a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Fill power measures how much air the down traps, and therefore how much warmth it holds for its weight. At 700 the insulation stays light and highly compressible, so the garment packs down small and still lofts back up. This grade suits ultralight jackets worn on cold, dry days and works well as an insulating layer under a shell.
