What Is an Insulated Ski Jacket and What Are the Options?
An insulated ski jacket is essential for anyone seeking warmth and comfort while skiing or snowboarding. The insulation helps maintain your body temperature, even in the harshest conditions. There are different types of insulation, each with its own advantages. In this guide, we explain the differences so you can make the perfect choice.

Down Insulation: Lightweight and Extremely Warm
A jacket insulated with down is the ideal choice for those looking for maximum warmth without sacrificing comfort. Down provides excellent insulation and is very lightweight, making it perfect for cold, dry conditions. However, keep in mind that down performs less well in wet conditions unless the jacket has been specially treated to resist moisture.

Wool Insulation: Natural and Breathable
Jackets with wool insulation offer a natural alternative. Wool is not only warm but also breathable and retains heat even when damp. This option is ideal for those who prefer natural materials and comfort in varying weather conditions.

Synthetic Insulation: Versatile and Low-Maintenance
Synthetic insulation, such as PrimaLoft or Thinsulate, offers excellent warmth and performs well in wet conditions. This option is often slightly heavier than down but dries quickly and is easier to care for. It’s ideal for active winter sports enthusiasts who value versatility and affordability.

Why Choose an Insulated Ski Jacket?

  • Optimal Warmth: Protect yourself against extreme cold.

  • Comfort During Activity: Maintain your freedom of movement without sacrificing insulation.

  • Suitable for Various Weather Conditions: Whether you're skiing in powder snow or braving a cold wind, an insulated jacket adapts to your needs.

Which Insulation Suits You Best?
The right insulation depends on your personal preferences and the conditions in which you’ll wear the jacket. Looking for ultimate warmth and comfort? Go for down. Need a versatile, low-maintenance option? Consider synthetic materials. Or choose wool for a natural feel.

Our premium ski jackets combine functionality, style, and top quality, so you can fully enjoy your winter sports adventure. Explore our collection and find your perfect insulated ski jacket!

Is your purchase not quite what you expected or is the size incorrect? No problem, you can easily return your order to us. You may try on and view an item as you would in a shop, but there are some rules.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • You have 14 days from receipt of your order to register your return.
  • Are you too late? Then your order will no longer be found in the portal. In that case, always contact us first so we can see what possibilities there are.
  • After registering online, you then have 14 days to hand in your return at the post office. If you hand in the parcel after the 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return. The sooner you register and send in your return, the sooner it will be processed and you will receive your money back.
  • Almost all outerwear and trousers are delivered with a large yellow return label. Do not remove this until you decide to keep the item! Once this vignette has been removed, there is no way we can return the item.
  • Returns are at your own risk and expense.
  • If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.
  • If you have received an incorrect or damaged item, please always contact us a.s.a.p. and include photos of the product and the labels so we can see which item/defect is concerned.

STEP BY STEP GUIDE:

1. Check your items

√ Has the return period of 14 days after receipt not expired

√ Is the yellow return label (in the case of outerwear and trousers) and all price tags still attached?

√ Is the article unworn and therefore not dirty, damaged or creased?

2. Submit your return online

Enter your own postcode and the full order number (including letters) in the portal to which you can start the return. You can choose to purchase a DPD shipping label via the portal. If you choose this option, print the shipping label. You can download this immediately and it will also be sent to you by e-mail (please check your e-mail address and any spam mail).

You can also choose another carrier outside the portal. We always advise you to send the parcel insured. The DPD label via the portal insures your parcel up to €500.

3. Pack your return

√ Fold the items neatly and close all zips and buttons. Because of the technical materials it is important not to cause serious creases and wrinkles, as these can damage the product.

Then pack the items back in their original packaging and put them in the shipping bag or box. Another bag or box is also fine, as long as it is sturdy so that it arrives undamaged

√ If you have items from several orders that you wish to return, you may simply return them in 1 parcel

√ Put the enclosed packing slip/order confirmation (or a copy) in the parcel

√ Stick the DPD shipping label on the parcel.

If you have chosen to send via another carrier, please write the return address on the parcel:

Skistore Swing

De Opslach 3

8448 GV Heerenveen

The Netherlands

4. Shipping

Hand over your return at a DPD parcel point or a carrier of your choice.

Returning (part of) your order is at your own risk. Keep the proof of delivery until we have received and processed your package.

Please note! After registering your return online, you have 14 days to return your parcel to the postal service. If you return the parcel after these 14 days, we will unfortunately no longer be able to process your return.

5. Refund

You will receive confirmation by e-mail when your return has been received and processed.

This is usually within a few days after your order has been delivered to us. The money will then be refunded to the account you paid with within a week after confirmation (usually longer for credit card payments). If you have chosen to pay afterwards, this will be adjusted on your Klarna invoice.

Please note! If you return part of your order, we will only refund the amount of the returned items and not other costs such as shipping costs.

Product information
  • 700 fill power down at 190 g total weight
  • Compresses small enough for a rucksack lid
  • 42 gsm 20D ripstop shell blocks wind
  • Water repellent only, not for sustained rain
  • Sleeveless and hoodless: warms the core only
  • Down needs a 5-hour tumble dry to reloft

The Peak Performance Women Helium Down Vest is a sleeveless down vest filled with 700 fill power duck down in a 90/10 down-to-feather ratio, wrapped in a 42 gsm 20D recycled ripstop shell, with a total garment weight of 190 grams. It is built to work two ways: as a light outer layer on cool, dry days, or as an insulation layer under a shell jacket. It packs down and compresses, so it rides in a rucksack instead of filling one.

Who is the Helium Down Vest for?

This vest suits you if you want one very light down layer that keeps your core warm on cool, dry days, on a walk, on the way to the lift or while travelling. The Peak Performance Women Helium Down Vest is not a ski jacket: there is no powder skirt and no ski-specific hardware, and it has neither sleeves nor a hood, so arms, hands and head need their own layer. If you want insulation you can wash and dry without a routine, choose a synthetic fill instead of down.

How warm is the Helium Down Vest?

Warmth comes from 700 fill power duck down, quilted in the Helium pattern so the fill stays spread across the body panels. The 42 gsm 20D ripstop face fabric is tightly woven, blocks wind and repels light rain, and carries a PFC-free water repellent finish. There is no water column behind it, so sustained rain and wet snow are the limit, and wet down loses its loft. The Peak Performance Women Helium Down Vest covers the torso only, which is the point: core warmth with completely free arms.

Which size should you choose?

Peak Performance cuts the Women Helium Down Vest in a regular fit, in sizes S, M, L and XL. Compare your chest and waist measurements with the size chart on this page. Because the vest is designed to sit over a base layer or midlayer and also under a shell jacket, pick the size that leaves the quilting uncompressed. Flattened down does not insulate.

How is the Peak Performance Helium Down Vest built?

The Peak Performance Women Helium Down Vest has no membrane and no laminate. The weather protection is the fabric itself: a 42 gsm 20D ripstop in 100% recycled polyamide, woven tightly enough to hold the down in place, stop wind and shed light rain, finished with a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment. The down sits in quilted chambers in the Helium pattern. A full-front reversed YKK coil zipper runs to a chinguard at the top, the collar stands up around the neck, and elastic binding closes the hem and both armholes so cold air does not circulate under the vest. Two zippered hand pockets and a hanger loop on the outside of the neck complete the build.

Does the Helium Down Vest work under a ski jacket?

As an insulation layer, yes. At 190 grams and fully compressible, the Women Helium Down Vest adds core warmth under a shell jacket without taking up the room a fleece would, and it comes out of the pack for the walk to the car or a cold breakfast outside. As a complete outer layer on the slopes it stops: there is no powder skirt, no ventilation and no ski-specific hardware, and in cold, windy winter conditions a sleeveless, hoodless piece leaves too much uncovered. The 20D face fabric is also the lightest part of the design, so keep it away from rock, metal edges and loaded ski straps, which can tear a ripstop this fine.

What is the Helium Down Vest made of and how do you wash it?

The filling is 90% duck down and 10% duck feather at 700 fill power. Shell and lining are both 100% recycled polyamide. Down rewards careful washing: machine wash at 40 degrees Celsius on a delicate cycle with similar colours, all zippers closed, no bleach, no fabric softener, no ironing, no dry cleaning and no professional wet cleaning. Take the vest out of the machine promptly, then tumble dry it inside out on low with a few tennis balls for at least five hours, pulling it out every half hour to shake the down back into shape. Skip that step and the down clumps, which costs loft and warmth.

What makes the Peak Performance Helium Down Vest a more responsible buy?

The down in the Peak Performance Women Helium Down Vest is certified to the Responsible Down Standard and fully traceable through the Track My Down programme. The shell and lining are 100% recycled polyamide, and the vest is made without intentionally added PFAS, with a PFC-free durable water repellent treatment instead.

Down (700 fill)
Down (700 fill)
Down with a 700 fill power delivers a high warmth-to-weight ratio. Fill power measures how much air the down traps, and therefore how much warmth it holds for its weight. At 700 the insulation stays light and highly compressible, so the garment packs down small and still lofts back up. This grade suits ultralight jackets worn on cold, dry days and works well as an insulating layer under a shell.
